On July 25, 2015 a group of 15 young Americans with patriotic flags were in a group of vehicles driving through Douglasville, Georgia. They were part of a group called respect the Flag. Many of these groups had been formed after the Confederate Flag, Monuments and street names came under act with calls to remove them due to the June 17th shooting by Dylan Roof in Charleston, SC.

The story of what actually happened is as follows:

The group had just left American Vets Post 188 where they had been given some American flags, Marine and army Flags. Many of the vehicles had American, Confederate, Marine and Army Flags on them.

One of the drivers in the back of the group of vehicles driven by Levi Bush, a 24 year old from Spokane Washington, was flying an American and Marine Flag from his truck. As he pulled around a corner three black individuals threw rocks hitting Levi’s truck. In a panic Levis attempted to speed away and ran over a curb. This act punctured his tire and he got a flat tire. He could not go anywhere.

Subsequently the group of 15 hung around to wait until he could change his tire. At this point members of a black family that was having a birthday party approached the group and began yelling at the group. At this point both sides got into a verbal altercation. The police were called and then the group left.

At no point was there any intent to appear at the black youth’s birthday party to intimidate, verbally attack or confront those who had initiated the confrontation.

What came next were charges being leveled at the Douglasville 15 in the form of terroristic threats and gang activity. Each of the 15 has been charged with a felony and face serious jail time up to 20 years if convicted.

The purpose of this blog post is to raise money for the defense of the main person charged, Levi Bush.

Levi is a young man who recently became a father, He was raised on the Kalispell Okanagan reservation in an Indian reservation in Washington State. His fiancé is from Vietnam. He currently is employed as a plumber and is not able to afford the high cost of his defense.
